Support the work

Support the work.

Your contribution secures independent fact-finding for children.

We cannot fix what we do not understand. It is the foundation of every improvement — and it is costly. Hagsmunasamtök Æskunnar has received no public funding. We only accept contributions that preserve our independence and neutrality toward government, business, and other interest groups. Your contribution is what makes it possible for us to operate as an independent advocate.

Why support us?

Four reasons to back the work.

We build the full picture

Today, information about children is fragmented and scattered across dozens of systems. With your support we map who is responsible for what, gather the data in one place, and build a dashboard that shows the real state of the field.

We monitor government promises

We do not stop at data collection. We use donations to track decisions and budget allocations and to follow up on public promises. We make sure words become actions — and that government is asked for answers when plans fall through.

We work with practitioners on the ground

Our data is not just numbers on a page. We work closely with people who work with children every day to identify real failures in the system. Your support lets us deepen that analysis and put the facts in the context of reality in the field.

Full independence and transparency

Your contribution guarantees that our voice stays free of outside pressure. We are careful with every króna; all donations go directly into core work, and they are made visible in the organization's annual accounts.

Individual support

Ways to give.

You can choose between a one-time gift and monthly donations. All support goes directly into the organization's core work: gathering data, analyzing the system, and holding government to account.

  • One-time gift: A direct way to support the work right away.
  • Monthly donations: Predictability and stability to sustain long-term work.
Bank transfer

Direct support and larger gifts.

A bank transfer is a convenient route for anyone who wants to support the work directly — and the route companies, institutions, and foundations typically use.

What does a donation really cost you?

Here you can estimate your actual cost once the tax deduction is taken into account. The calculator shows the difference between what you give and what you get back through lower taxes.

  • Individuals: Receive a tax deduction on up to ISK 350,000 per year.
  • Automatic: We report the information to Skatturinn (Iceland Revenue and Customs), so the donation appears on your tax return automatically.
kr./mán.

More on tax brackets is available from Skatturinn (Icelandic).

Total donation per year
120.000 kr.
Tax saving
45.588 kr.
Real cost per year
74.412 kr.
Real cost per month
6.201 kr.
The minimum donation for a tax deduction is ISK 10,000 per year.
The tax-deduction ceiling has been reached (ISK 350,000 per year). No deduction is granted for the excess amount.

The calculator is for guidance only — your actual deduction is calculated by Skatturinn according to your tax brackets at any given time. The amount toggles show Icelandic units (kr./mán. = ISK/month, kr./ári = ISK/year).

Tax deduction

Rules and legal framework for donations.

Individuals who support public-benefit work are entitled to a tax deduction on their donations. The process is simple: the deduction is applied automatically at assessment, and we take care of sending the necessary information to Skatturinn (provided the donor's national ID number is on file).

Key figures

  • Deduction ceiling: ISK 350,000 per person per year.
  • Minimum to qualify: Donations must total at least ISK 10,000 in a year to qualify.
  • Actual saving: The saving corresponds to the income tax in your bracket — between 31.49% and 46.29% of the donated amount.
  • Married couples and cohabiting partners: The combined ceiling is ISK 700,000 per year, but each person uses their own ISK 350,000 base (the deduction is not transferable between partners).

Legal basis

The right to the deduction rests on point 7 of section A of Art. 30 of Act No. 90/2003 on income tax.

Companies: Companies follow different rules and can deduct donations of up to 1.5% of operating revenue (up to 3% where part of the donation goes to carbon offsetting). More for companies →

Use of funds

Founding phase, 2026.

In our first year of operation, much of the work goes into building databases, setting up internal systems, and securing day-to-day operations. Most of this build-out is done in-house. Today's ratios reflect that founding cost — they will shift as soon as the foundation is in place:

  • Operations and founding costs (approx. 80%): Staff costs for building infrastructure, systems and software development, accounting, legal services, and general operations.
  • Project costs (approx. 10%): Initial data collection, analysis, and publishing.
  • Reserve fund (approx. 10%): Set aside to cover unexpected costs in the organization's early days.

Our goal for the 2027 financial year is to flip that ratio: project costs take priority and rise to 70% or more once the infrastructure is fully in place. A precise breakdown of the actual figures will appear in the annual accounts for 2026 (published by June 30, 2027).

Security and privacy

We handle all data with the utmost care.

  • Tax deduction: To report your donation to Skatturinn (so the donation appears automatically on your tax return), we need to record your national ID number (kennitala).
  • Retention: We keep national ID numbers and payment information for seven years, as accounting and tax law requires.
  • Your rights: The information is used solely to register donations correctly. You can request information about your data, or exercise your rights under data protection law, at any time.
